Dr Kumar Sathiendrakumar is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Murdoch Business School, where he teaches units in Microeconomics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has an extensive international record of research and publication in the economics of tourism, sustainable natural resource development and economics, and the economics of waste management. Since 2001 Dr Sathiendrakumar has been Project Leader in the Economics of Waster Management with the Centre for Organic Waste Management at Murdoch University.

Received a Citation of Excellence with the Highest quality rating by ANBAR Electronic Intelligence in 1997 for the article "Sustainable development: passing fad or potential reality?” International Journal of Social Economics, Vol. 23, Nos. 4/5/6.

Invited by Macmillan Reference USA to write a Chapter on the Maldives in Their Countries and Culture Encyclopaedia published in May 2001.

University and Community Service

Dr Kumar Sathiendrakumar has taught Agricultural Economics for the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Rural Area Development conducted by the University of Colombo in collaboration with the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Co-operation, and has previously held the position of Lecturer in Economics at Murdoch University (1989-98). He has been British Council Scholar at the University of Manchester (1976-78) and a Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore (1992-93), the Universities of Dundee, Strathclyde and Birmingham (1995-96), and at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji (2000). During his career he has also been an Economist to the Sri Lanka Sugar Corporation, a Consultant to the International Labour Organisation, and a Consultant to the Asian Development Bank. Dr Sathiendrakumar has been a Parish Council Member of both St. Phillips Anglican Church, Waratah, NSW (1985-86) and St. Basil’s Anglican Church, Murdoch, WA (1997-98), has been Warden of St. Basil’s Anglican Church 91997-99), and has served as Vice-President of the West Australian Tamil Christian Congregation (1999-2000). Three times he was elected to the Academic Council at Murdoch university. Currently he is an elected member of the Academic Council at Murdoch university from July 2008 to June 2011
