Murdoch Business School

Marketing and the Media

Murdoch’s Marketing and the Media course is unique in Australia, integrating business strategy and creative design. Students complete units in both the Murdoch Business School as well as the School of Media, Communication and Culture in a course, which is tailored to provide students with a combination of skills and knowledge from the related areas of marketing and communication.

Marketing identifies the wants and needs of the consumer for a product or service and identifies strategies to provide them in the most effective ways. Communication through the media is crucial to the marketing process.

Students will gain critical understanding of communications policies and of the historical, social and textual aspects of popular culture and of media audiences. Students in the course also have the opportunity to develop production skills by the appropriate selection of courses. In a number of courses, students will have access to the em2 Electronic and Multimedia Marketing lab, one of Australia’s most advanced educational marketing environments featuring high end digital video editing systems, multimedia, as well as advanced special effects and 3D animation stations.

Graduates of this course will be well suited to careers in marketing, advertising and public relations for both private and public organisations.
